Scott is in the first year of an apprenticeship in Civil Engineering.

I enjoy the routine, the mix of going out on site coupled with work in an office. I manage my own diary and workload, and the apprenticeship is really flexible.

I feel proud being able to do a job knowing I’m helping Glasgow and responding to public requests.

Apprenticeships are a really good way to get people my age into jobs, it’s good to be learning new skills that will set you up for life and still be getting paid for it. Also at the end of your time you can apply for any job within the skill you have learned, after just a few years. I think it’s a big benefit for people my age and I plan on taking full advantage.

When I complete my apprenticeship I want to work my way up into management. By working with qualified staff, I am gaining experience and a clear direction of where my next four years and beyond will take me.

  • It was a good feeling when I got a call to tell me I’d got a place. I was worried I wasn’t going to get a job so it was a big relief. If I hadn’t got this I would probably have applied for more apprenticeships but would probably not have got one doing civil engineering so I’m happy
